Solway Vehicle Enthusiasts Club, based in Dumfries, South West Scotland was proud to hold its inaugural show over the weekend 17 and 18 May 2014.
Fine weather greeted the event which saw both days of the show very well attended. Exhibitors had brought a wide and varied selection of vehicles of every class from vintage to classic cars, motorcycles and lorries to show and demonstrate to a discerning and knowledgeable public.
One particular exhibit appeared to capture the moment. Robert Campbell from Dumbarton had brought with him a 1943 Albion lorry – thought to be the only one of its kind left.
The Club exists to provide a forum for its members to meet and discuss matters of interest but a key principle is that of fund raising within the local community.
Spectators and exhibitors donated generously over the weekend and the Club has been able to make a significant contribution to a number of local charities and organisations. Over £1400 has been allocated and will be distributed locally with the following benefitting:
• Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, Macmillan Centre, Oncology Unit – Head and Neck and Bowel
• Parkinson’s Society, Dumfries Branch
• Noblehill Scouts and Cubs, Dumfries
• Maxwelltown High School Band, Dumfries
• Aviation Museum, Dumfries, and
• Lochar Thistle Football Club
Club President Hugh Turner said of the event “It was a great weekend for it with the weather being kind to us and people coming from far and wide. For our inaugural show it was great – here’s to the next one”.
