STRANRAER YOUTH POLICE VOLUNTEERS WIN DUMFRIES HOUSE COMPETITION

Police Scotland Youth Volunteers (PSYV) – Stranraer recently travelled to Dumfries House near Cumnock to take part in two days of competition with six other groups from throughout Scotland.

Depute Coordinator for the Stranraer group Constable Nicola Wilson along with six youth volunteers – Bronwyn Brown, Heather Nicol, Courtney Anderson, Craig Wilson, Connor Howe and Dylan McCurdy attended the event.

The competition involved both physical and mental activities which included a climbing wall, bleep test, as well as observation tests and team building exercises. Points were awarded to each team for team and individual activities. The wet weather did not dampen the team’s enthusiasm when they were involved inoutdoor activities; everyone (literally) got stuck in!

PSYV Stranraer was the overall winner of the competition and received the team trophy from Superintendent Hussain from Police Scotland.

Heather Nicol reached an incredible Level 19 on the bleep test; showing a high level of fitness and stamina. Connor Howe was also recognised for his high level of participation and enthusiasm throughout the event,; Connor received the runner up award for endeavour.

Depute Coordinator PC Nicola Wilson commented “This was a fabulous achievement for our youth volunteers; not only did they win the competition, they showed a fantastic team spirit working with other young people from throughout Scotland”.

 

Police Scotland Youth Volunteer Dylan McCurdy commented “I really enjoyed the 3 days, meeting other young people from other groups and making new friends”. “I am already looking forward to next year and also looking forward to attending events this year with other groups”.
