Carson Hits Out At Council’s Handling Of Stranraer’s George Hotel

Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Finlay Carson has hit out at Dumfries and Galloway Council’s handling of the George Hotel in Stranraer.

The local MSP’s complaint comes after the town’s Church Street has been closed off as of Monday May 20 due to the threat of falling slates from the George Hotel.

Mr Carson has been contacted by concerned constituents who say that the closure of Church Street could potentially cause chaos when it comes to town centre traffic.

Mr Carson says the council have failed to show any form of leadership regarding the George Hotel, allowing it to fall into a further state of disrepair and it remains a longstanding eyesore for the town.

Commenting Finlay Carson MSP said: “The state of the George Hotel is a major issue for Stranraer, and the responsibility lies with Dumfries and Galloway Council.
“They have allowed the building to fall into a further state of disrepair since purchasing the building and it is still an absolute eyesore for the town.
“Now we see that Church Street is going to be closed as a result, potentially causing traffic chaos in the centre of Stranraer.
“The council have had long enough to begin the works on the hotel that they plan to do.
“They must begin them as a matter of urgency.”
