Strike Plans in Region Paused as Union Weighs New Pay Proposal

School strikes set to take place across Scotland next week have been put on hold following a union’s success in securing an improved pay offer for local government workers.

School support staff in Dumfries and Galloway had originally planned to strike on Wednesday, November 8.  However, discussions between the local government body Cosla and Unison have led to the presentation of a new proposal. Unison has now announced that the strike action will remain suspended until its members have the opportunity to vote on whether to accept the offer.

An email sent to parents in Dumfries and Galloway stated “We have had notification from Unison that a pay offer is being considered by them, and as such, the strike action that was planned for Wednesday 8 November has been suspended.

“This means our schools and early learning childcare settings will remain open as normal, and that learning will continue unaffected across all our education and learning settings.”
