Substantial Funding for Skatepark Development

Castle MacLellan supports local community with substantial funding award for Skatepark development.

The campaign to build a skatepark in Kirkcudbright has received overwhelming support from local pâté producer Castle MacLellan Foods which today (Tuesday 1 November) announced a £15,000 boost to be awarded to the project.

Staff at Castle MacLellan, in Kirkcudbright, voted for funds to be awarded to Kirkcudbright Skatepark as part of an annual award process facilitated and ultimately decided upon by the Kavli Trust, which works to ensure profits from all Kavli Group companies are donated to good causes both in the UK and abroad.

The £15,000 is an incredible boost to the project which has huge support from the local business community as well as community groups. The generosity adds to the local funding already raised by children and young adults, individuals and local groups who are keen to donate to charities that support young people.

The Kavli Group bought Castle MacLellan Foods in 1997 and has since invested more than £5m in improving the factory, which now employs over 100 people, many of whom have families living in the town and surrounding area.

Paul Lewney, managing director of Kavli UK, said:

“The Kavli Group is unique in the way that profits from our businesses are donated to charities and good causes through our owner the Kavli Trust.”

“It means that every time anyone buys one of our products they know they are supporting worthy projects just like the Kirkcudbright Skatepark.

“We are very proud to be able to support such a fantastic project which is making a big difference to the lives of local people and look forward to seeing the difference this donation makes.”

Chairman of Kirkcudbright Skatepark, Alan McClure, said;

“We’re very proud to be the latest recipients of the Kavli Trust’s generous community funding.  This pledge is a significant step towards our total funding goal, and on behalf of all the young skaters, scooter users and cyclists of Kirkcudbright we are tremendously grateful for it.”

Volunteers are urgently needed to help the project, particularly young people who may be looking for campaign experience in the third sector.

If you are interested in supporting, have any suggestions or wish to attend the Kirkcudbright Skatepark Committee please contact the Chairman, Alan McClure on [email protected] or message the committee via the facebook page ‘Kirkcudbright Skatepark’.
