SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SHOPS AND PRODUCERS ON SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY

With Christmas almost upon us, consumers across Dumfries and Galloway are being encouraged to ‘shop local’ as part of a nationwide small business drive.

Business Gateway and Dumfries and Galloway Council have thrown their weight behind Small Business Saturday, a UK grassroots, non-commercial campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses in their communities.

The day takes place on the first shopping Saturday in December each year, but the campaign aims to have a lasting impact on small businesses. This year Small Business Saturday will take place on Saturday 5 December.

Every year Business Gateway supports hundreds of business owners across Dumfries and Galloway to set up and grow their ventures.

For these businesses to succeed it is vitally important that they look for opportunities to secure new clients. Small Business Saturday provides a fantastic platform to send out a message to potential customers across the region that there is a huge network of small businesses offering fantastic products and services, on their doorstep.

Councillor Colin Smyth, chairman of the Economy, Environment and Infrastructure committee, said, “Building the local economy is the number one priority for our Council. Small Business Saturday is an ideal opportunity for us all to support our local businesses. We should highlight the diversity of the businesses trading in our region, offering their customers the best service available, whether it’s a local café offering artisan foods or a local garage that can repair your car. Dumfries and Galloway Council is very proud of the small businesses operating in our region and is pleased to support Small Business Saturday 2015.”
