Wigtown Shopkeepers Stay Open For Late Night Friday Shopping

Shopkeepers in Wigtown will be keeping their doors open later for the next two Fridays to allow customers a little early evening retail therapy.

On Friday the 11th and 18th bookshops and gift shops will be staying open until 6.30pm to allow shoppers who cannot get to stores during working hours to have some relaxed retail time. The town boasts a range of interesting independent shops selling new and second hand books, local crafts, gifts, art prints and original work, antiques and collectables.

A spokesperson for the Association of Wigtown Booksellers said: “We’re all being encouraged to shop local this year to support the high street. Places like Wigtown need the help of the region’s customers to cope with the current COVID crisis. Many of the town’s booksellers normally close around 4pm but hope that people will have time to visit during the extended opening hours. Of course, normal safety rules will still apply.”

Scotland’s National Book Town is running a number of special events including the launch of a Wigtown voucher that can be purchased from the Festival Company’s website and exchanged at many of the town’s businesses. There is also a fun ‘Spot the Sprout’ competition running until the 18 th December. Families should look out for a sprout in the windows of homes and shops in the main shopping area and when they’ve written down where they’ve seen more than 12, hand the list into Foggie Toddle Books. All entries will be put into a prize draw to win a fabulous book bundle donated by Foggie Toddle Books and Number 11.
