Brave New Words Returns with a Norwegian Makeover

Brave New Words will once again be returning to The Stove, 100 High Street,Dumfries, on Friday 25th November, this month with an ‘Our Norwegian Story’ makeover.  The monthly open mic night is part of The Stove’s mission to bring vibrancy to evenings in the heart of Dumfries, and this month will feature storytelling by an open fire outside, hot drinks and good craic. The night aims to celebrate our cultural traditions with Norway, and is open to writers, performers and musicians with words spoken or sung.

Katharine Wheeler, lead artist on ‘Our Norwegian Story’, comments, “This month we are connecting across the seas with Norway to celebrate our shared cultural history and perspective. We hope to find stories/material specifically connecting Dumfries as part of The Stove’s ongoing ‘Our Norwegian Story’ project but please do also come along as usual and share your pieces or just enjoy.”

The event begins at 7pm, with an outside fireside discussion and storytelling with John Wheeler and an exploration of our relationship to ‘place’ with Alexander Smith. From 7.30pm, there will also be a live Skype link with Norway’s Karmoy Viking group, as they host their own Brave New Words inspired event. Inside will be Brave New Word’s regular open mic night, and anyone with an original poem, song, story or performance they wish to showcase is encouraged to come along on Friday to present their work in front of a live audience.

Entry is free, and open to all members of the public. The Stove Café will also be serving hot drinks all night. BYOB. To take part and for more information on events, please email [email protected].
