Grab Your Tickets As ‘Rapid Depature’ Storms into Dumfries and Galloway

Hailed as an “hilariously educational touring theatre production not to be missed”, a new interactive comedy has taken the nation by storm since its premiere in Eigg’s community hall in May last year.
After a spate of successful sell-out performances across Scotland, Rapid Departure will hit the region on a five date tour in March and brings a clever mix of drama, audience participation, sing-along, big sound effects and even a bit of technology to venues from Nithsdale to Wigtownshire.
The drama unfolds in a village hall in the wake of a freak flood where the locals (the audience) are challenged to cope with the bad weather both outside the hall and between the designated officials trusted to deal with the worsening crisis.
Described as having a serious message but conveyed with gentle hilarity, the production has received some glowing feedback from audiences who said: “Sing-along renderings of You Are My Sunshine and The Muckle Spate of 63 added to the fun and within the first few minutes it was clear that a real treat was in store.
“Great fun – wonderfully silly, but with some serious ideas conveyed.”
“Absolutely brilliant – entertaining, very innovative and manages to be thoughtfully factual and informative at the same time – 5 stars”
“Made us laugh, made us cry and left with our hearts in their hands. A great performance with poignant messages.”
Rapid Departure begins its tour at the Glencairn Memorial Institute, Moniaive, on Tuesday, 15 March. It then moves to Colvend Public Hall on Wednesday, 16 March; Kirkcudbright Town Hall, on Thursday, 17 March; the Millennium Centre, Stranraer, on Friday, 18 March; and Wigtown County Buildings on Saturday, 19 March.
All shows, £9/£7, begin at 7.30pm and tickets are available from the Midsteeple Box Office, Dumfries, 01387 253383.
