The Legendary Dr Feelgood To Headline New Rock, Rhythm & Blues Weekend Festival in Dumfries

A brand new weekend festival is about to rock into Dumfries when Dr Feelgood headlines the 1st Dumfries Rock, Rhythm and Blues Weekend over the weekend of Friday 13th to Sunday 15th March 2020.

The idea of bringing such an event to Dumfries has been discussed over the years and when it looked like the award winning Carlisle Blues Festival might not be taking place this year it seemed like an ideal time to look at hosting a similar event in Dumfries.

It was only after meeting up with Nick Westgarth the organiser of the Carlisle event that the wheels were put in motion for a smaller, more intimate weekend in Dumfries.

Nick seemed to be the obvious person to ask for advice having established one of the UK’s best Rock and Blues events in Carlisle and with over 10 years’ experience of organising this event, he would prove to be invaluable in establishing another event in Dumfries.

Nick has in fact agreed to help to run the Dumfries event in March alongside Fraser Milligan (Strumsum Blues Band) and the contacts he’s built up over the years organising the Carlisle event and the experience he’s gained from running the Carlisle event should mean that some of the pitfalls and teething problems of setting the event up are avoided.

The two day event at the Cairndale hotel will see legendary rockers Dr Feelgood headline Saturday night and there’s also been an opportunity for local bands Stoney Broke, The Dogz, Strumsum Blues Band and the Mary Barclay Band to play alongside the likes of John Verity (of Argent fame) Connie Lush and Gerry Jablonski.

Other headline bands appearing over the weekend include Stevie Nimmo Trio (Friday night) and The Stumble (Sunday afternoon).

The Cairndale hotel is offering a 2 or 3 night residential package for anyone visiting from out with the area and a weekend ticket for £70 allows entry to all 3 days.

There’s also been a strong local interest in attending gigs over the weekend and with tickets starting from just £15 for the Saturday afternoon session (Jon Bowie & Phil Saunders, The Dogz and the Shiverin Sheiks) the Dumfries Rock Rhythm and Blues Festival also offers great value all round.

Tickets for all sessions are now available to book on the hotel’s website.
