Scotland’s National Company For Young People announce Dumfries date for their latest performance

Act of Repair is a brand-new piece of political theatre touring Scotland in July 2019.

After two hugely successful National Ensemble productions in 2017 and 2018, the latest Scottish Youth Theatre National Ensemble will tour their new production to the Theatre Royal, Dumfries this July.

Act of Repair is a brand-new piece of political theatre concerned with Brexit, emerging forms of capitalism and the technological forces at work around us; on us; in us.

The 2019 National Ensemble is a company of twenty diverse, radical, political artists aged 16-25 who have been selected from across Scotland for their ability as emerging theatre makers.

Since their formation in December 2018, the company have collaborated with Lead Artist and Director Brian Ferguson to co-create the piece. Recently seen on stage in the title role in National Theatre of Scotland’s Cyrano De Bergerac, Scottish Youth Theatre alumni Brian Ferguson explains why he chose the National Ensemble’s production for his major directorial debut:

“I feel honoured and thrilled to be the Director for this year’s National Ensemble; a group of politically engaged, immensely talented young theatre makers, full of questions and opinions about the world we all live in and their place in it. For me, the opportunity to facilitate and direct such a unique company through a devising process is an irresistible challenge and gift.

We have invited theatre specialists and academics to share their practice and research along the way; this has led us to a piece that is political, radical and relevant. We can’t wait to unveil it this summer.”

Mahri Reilly, Scottish Youth Theatre’s Creative Producer adds:

“We are delighted to have been awarded Creative Scotland Open Project Funding for the production and tour of Act of Repair. This major financial investment will enable us to realise the scale and ambition of the country’s only national touring company for young artists who have something to say, as we continue to drive our new National Artistic Programme and cultivate the next generation of Scottish theatre makers, innovators and activists.”
