After three sell-out concerts in December, the much-loved Feral Choir is back with two more in Dumfries to welcome the coming year with warmth and light.
Midwinter Turning has been beautifully put together by award-winning songwriter Alison Burns, reflecting 2016 in poetry, prose and song.
“The past year has been one of the most pivotal in my lifetime and I know lots of choir members feel the same way,” says Alison. “I wanted to celebrate love, friendship and community while acknowledging some of the big themes of 2016.”
The concerts will weave together songs from the choir with favourite poems, including work from local writers Hugh McMillan and Alan McClure. Text by Manchester poet Louise Walwein and music by Alison Burns becomes the poignant Kos Lullaby and there’s some light-hearted advice on getting through February.
“The start of a new year is the perfect time to take stock of the past and look to the future,” adds Alison, “Midwinter Turning does just that and we’d like to invite friends old and new to join us.”
The concert on Saturday 14th January is in partnership with MOOL (Massive Outpouring of Love, D&G Refugee Action) with proceeds from the concert going to their most urgent work.
