| Gatehouse Music Society- GMS final concert of its 2025/26 series concludes on the 7th May with a recital by Laura van der Heijden, cellist with Jams Coleman piano.
It is a beautiful programme of music curated by Laura who since winning BBC Young Musician in 2012 aged 15, Laura has built a thriving and varied international career, working with distinguished conductors including the late Sir Andrew Davis, Alpesh Chauhan, Nick Collon, Richard Egarr, Gemma New, and Karl-Heinz Steffens. Increasingly recognised as a prominent voice in the classical music world, she has appeared on Jess Gillam’s This Classical Life podcast, Tom Service’s Saturday Morning show on BBC Radio 3 and BBC Music Magazine’s All the Right Notes podcast and was featured on the cover of The Strad (June 2024). In 2025 Laura won the RPS Instrumentalist Award. Introducing her nomination the RPS said “Everything she does embodies excellence and integrity, fulfilled with heart. Luminous recordings, boundless collaborations, and new commissions showcase an artist truly in her prime. Coleman is a pianist who enjoys performing as a soloist, chamber musician, and vocal accompanist. He regularly performs at prestigious festivals and venues in the UK and internationally. Jâms’ duo partnership with cellist Laura is described as ‘intriguing and beguiling’ by The Guardian and as ‘gently alluring, enigmatic and romantic’ by Gramophone, their second album – ‘Path to the Moon’ – reached two million streams worldwide in the first week. They’re looking forward to releasing their third album together in late 2026. Jâms Laura and Jâms concert draws to an end GMS’ 2025/26 season. A remarkable season of eight concerts, two workshops with 17 artists, many who travelled many miles to be with us and 20 young musicians from across the region who took part in our “Be Inspired Concert”.
