Absolute Classic Festival Supports Local Young Musicians

The Absolute Classics Festival is an international classical music event that provides a stage for classical artists to perform in Dumfries and Galloway. Alongside our concerts we celebrate the talent of our community, providing local young people with free tickets to concerts, master classes and performance opportunities.

Absolute Classics Festival 2 – 11 August

On Saturday the 10th of August at the Buccleuch and Queensberry Arms Hotel in Thornhill, the festivities continue when 11 local young musicians take to the platform to perform as part of the 2019 Absolute Classics Festival. This concert will celebrate the diverse musical talent that our region has to offer.

All of these young musicians have already displayed extraordinary talent, including studying at Chethams School of Music, being members of the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland, winning prizes at Rotary Young Musician of the year and studying at the junior department of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Join oboist Ethan Carter, cellist Faith Carter, soprano Catriona Arthur, pianist Mia Hashimoto, cellist Will Archibald, percussionist Callum Walton, David McDonald on accordion, Eleanor Tofield on french horn and members of the DGYO quartet. In what will be a concert full of delightful musical memories.

Director of Absolute Classics, Alex McQuiston, said: “Supporting young musicians is something that, as an organisation, we feel very proud of being able to do. I remember when I was their age, the majority of my musical experiences where set out of the region, which is why we want to provide opportunities for young musicians to be seen and heard in our region, so that they can develop to their full potential without always having to leave Dumfries and Galloway.” Alongside the professional concerts, Absolute Classics works throughout Dumfries & Galloway to bring new, exciting and innovative educational opportunities for local young people and schools across the region. These educational opportunities and all the concerts are free of charge for everyone under 26 years of age and resident in Dumfries & Galloway.
