The Small Town Sounds website has already attracted a lot of attention from both musicians and music fans alike, gaining almost 1000 hits within the first 24 hours of going live.

The website features news of the latest local music releases alongside upcoming gig announcements, reviews and profiles of bands and solo artists based in the area. http://smalltownsounds.co.uk/
It is the idea of Melissa Gunn who has been involved in promoting the local music scene for a number of years.
Melissa said, “I realised that this type of resource doesn’t exist – one central area for people to go to find out more about what’s happening musically in Dumfries & Galloway. It’s also a good way for people outside of the region to read about what a vibrant and active music scene we have here – and hopefully they’ll learn more about the individual acts too which might encourage them to come to the area to see them play live”.
Melissa, who also hosts the Thursday Night Showcase on community radio station Alive 107.3 which is dedicated to promoting the local music scene also commented, “There’s so much going on locally, but it often gets a bit tiresome trawling social media for news. I realised how useful it would be for there to be one place for all this news to appear, rather than on many different Facebook pages. I’m hoping that the Small Town Sounds website can be this place.”
The website also has information on the successful Small Town Sounds charity CD which features local musicians. It has raised over £1600 to date, with Langlands School, Alive 107.3fm and the children’s ward at Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary all benefitting from the sales.

Local bands and solo artists can have their profile published on the website for free. For further information, email Melissa at [email protected].
