One of the liveliest small music weekends in Scotland will soon be setting the summer nights aglow when the Firefly Festival returns to Moniaive.
This year it features a line-up including The Hoolits, Trongate Rum Riots, Greg Lawson and Pete Garnett and Emma Gillespie.
Originally conceived as a stopgap in the absence of Wickerman the festival has developed its own identity and now, in its third year, has its own distinctive character and following.
Emma Gillespie (who has recently had two top 10 singles and a top 20 album) will be performing work from her latest album, Pier Siamese, which was inspired by a four-month road trip from New York to California.
The alt-pop singer songwriter (who used to make a living taking tropical reptiles round Galloway primary schools) has also enjoyed success with collaborations such as So Young, performed with Stereophonics drummer Jamie Morrison.
Tim O’Sullivan, who runs the festival , said: “Firefly has established itself really quickly as a festival that’s intimate, quirky, high quality and fun.
“The music is fabulous, and very wide-ranging, with a mix of new and familiar performers from across Scotland. And it’s a great way to celebrate the summer in one of the most beautiful spots in Scotland.”
There will also be the chance to see Rory Mcleod, former circus clown and fire-eater who is now his own one-man soul band.
There will also be an appearance from the ever-popular folk punk band The Hoolits – and more acts are still to be confirmed.
