All the way from New Zealand (via Scotland) The Frank Burkitt Band are delighted to be embarking on their debut UK Tour in May and June 2019. The band will play Mill on the Fleet in Gatehouse of Fleet on Wednesday 5th June.
Following on from 4 months of shows in the antipodes, where they were announced as winners of the Vodafone NZ Music Award for Best Folk Artist 2019, the band will be travelling the UK for 6 weeks to as far north as Inverness and as far south as Falmouth.
Frank Burkitt is really looking forward to playing Mill on the Fleet: “As a band we’re really looking forward to playing our debut show in Galloway this June. Since releasing our album Raconteur at the end of 2018, we’ve been playing to audiences across Australia and New Zealand where we’ve been blown away by the positive response our new material has received from fans old and new. We really hope the Gatehouse of Fleet audiences enjoy the music just as much and we can’t wait to see them on Wednesday 5th June!”
A set with the band can be described as American roots music infused with folk, blues, country and a sprinkling of swing. Unique and profound songwriting arranged with precision and creativity. A true genre spanning performance awaits. Add to that Frank’s rambling anecdotes and you are in for a special night that will both move and entertain.
They will be joined on their travels by the enchanting Becka Wolfe who will be adding sumptuous fiddle and vocal harmony to the band’s songs as well as singing her own songs in Arabic, French and English.
Originally from Edinburgh, Frank Burkitt and lifelong partner Kara Filbey swapped a life of late-night music and Scottish pubs for Wellington, New Zealand in 2014. After placing an ad for a double bass player on a noticeboard in the NZ School of Music, James Geluk (double bass) answered the call followed swiftly by Cameron Burnell (mandolin, tenor banjo, vocals) and The Frank Burkitt Band was born.
Frank Burkitt – vocals, guitar
Cameron Burnell – mandolin and lapsteel
