Frightened Rabbit Headline Electric Fields 2017

 After an incredible 2016 and on the day we celebrate the country’s greatest poet, Electric Fields joins the party and has taken the opportunity to announce a host of the finest Scottish wordsmiths of the modern era with their first announcement of artists that will be joining them for a weekend celebration of top class music, amazing food and great entertainment.

Returning to the stunning grounds of the 17^th Century Drumlanrig Castle in Dumfries & Galloway, Electric Fields are excited to welcome Frightened Rabbit, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Arab Strap, And Yet It Moves, Crash Club and Brat and the Bonemen to this year’s event.

Needing little introduction to those that have paid any kind of attention to the Scottish music scene over the past decade, Frabbits have grown from the humble beginnings of a self-recording brotherly duo from Selkirk, to a fully-fledged, arena-playing, Top-20-bothering, mainstay of the indie-rock scene. Led by the ever-engaging wryness of front man Scott Hutchison, the band crowned an eventful 2016 – which saw the release of their fifth full-length effort – with a three-night, sold-out residency at Glasgow’s Barrowlands and we couldn’t be more excited to have them headline this year’s Electric Fields. Whether delivering heartfelt guitar-led anthems, or stripping it all back for something much more poignant, Frabbits are simply masters in their class. A national treasure? You better believe it. 

As the first names on a lineup which will ultimately feature over 100 artists, Electric Fields has once again taken strides to showcase some of the most exciting music around at the moment. Returning for another year are Edinburgh’s Sneaky Pete’s, who will again curate their own electronica stage, and Tim Burgess will bring back his own curated ‘Tim Peaks Diner’ experience.

Over the past three years Electric Fields has welcomed everyone from seasoned festival veterans to tiny first timers. Mums, Dads, Teenagers and Tots can all revel in the amazing atmosphere of Scotland’s best small festival.

The Jesus & Mary Chain

We don’t yet know what the brand new album from The Jesus & Mary Chain sounds like but if their entire history and back-catalogue is anything to go by then we won’t be disappointed. Released in March of this year, the first new record since the band’s 2007 return to the live stage, sees the Reid brothers from East Kilbride reunited in the studio for the first time since 1998 and we couldn’t be more delighted to celebrate it with them at this year’s Electric Fields Festival. As The Guardian said recently: “It may not be unusual these days to hear bands borrow from the Ronettes at the same time as from the Velvet Underground and Hank Williams, but in 1985 it was as radical as it was unprecedented.” Still as powerful some thirty years on, this promises to be a very special show indeed. 

As well as a smashing musical lineup, Electric Fields will this year be expanding its food and drink offering with a curated Food Village, and a dedicated tent hosting EF’s very own Ale and Craft Beer Festival. This year will also feature comedy, spoken word and film with Q&As from some very special guests. For the young one’s the “Our Kids Electric” area returns with a whole host of entertainment and workshops and of course, the legendary adventure playground is a hop skip and a jump away!
