The Beat Goes On (and on) in Gatehouse!

Gatehouse of Fleets Midsummer Music Festival has added another act to their 2018 lineup, with just days to go before the town opens its arms to music.

Gegenforde, a folk-rock band from County Durham, will be playing at the town’s Ship Inn on Sunday afternoon, 24 June, towards the end of the three-day extravaganza which covers the range of music from folk to dance to ska-punk, with numerous other genres featured.  Welcoming the new act to the line-up. Festival Chair Michelle McClure said:

It’s great to be able to extend our offering so late in the day, and we really welcome the town’s businesses, like The Ship, getting on board with the Festival.  Gegenforde offer an intriguing blend of seventeenth century dance, Rolling Stones, Buddy Holly, The Kinks and traditional folk, so I really hope people get the chance to take them in.”

The Ship also plays host to local folk-rockers The Razorbills on Saturday afternoon.  Other pubs getting in on the musical act include the Bank of Fleet, which hosts Dumfries band Tiderays on Friday evening, and The Masonic Arms which has local singer Susi Briggs playing alongside internationally renowned multi-instrumentalist Rory McLeod on Saturday afternoon.

The Saturday evening concert in the school hall features Yoko Pwno, who blend folk tunes and dance music, and who recently wowed late-night crowds at the Eden Festival with an incendiary set.  Also featuring is a second set from Rory McLeod, as well as 6-music regular Alex Nielson of Trembling Bells, with his band Alex Rex, and ska-punk outfit The Chronic Mishaps, who are based in Bristol.  “There’s much more on offer over the weekend,” added Michelle.  “Audiences have been great over the last couple of years, and we’ve got a great line-up for them again in 2018.”

Last buses through Gatehouse, east and west, are at 12 midnight and 11:25 respectively, so plenty of opportunities to join in the fun safely!
