Scotland’s Indie Music Festival – Firefly 2 promises a family friendly summer weekend of great music in the beautiful festival village of Moniaive
The Firefly Festival is back – and has grown from one to three days after the success of last year’s inaugural event.
The festival was set up to help fill a little of the gap left by the absence of the much-loved Wickerman.
Once again it features a host of great Indie bands, all coming together for the event from 14 to 16 July, at the Craigdarroch Arms in Moniaive – Scotland’s festival village.
Among the highlights of the family-friendly festival will be Scottish folk punk band The Hoolits, The Trongate Rum Riots and Junkman’s Choir.
The Glasgow-based Trongate Rum Riots have a nationwide reputation as rousing entertainers. Their style ranges from sweaty punk to dirty folk, with the occasional bluesy lick and Balkan riff.
Junkman’s Choir, are coming in from Ayrshire. The two-man band, which has previously supported the Pogues, describe themselves as having a global sound and playing a mix of Cajun, Country Sea Shanty’s and Rockin’ Reels.
Organiser Jane Chalmers, who is also the singer for The Hoolits, said: “Firefly is very much back by popular demand. It was set up last year to fill the gap while Wickerman took time out – people loved the idea and it immediately took on a personality of its own.
“This time we are running it over a whole weekend, but the spirit will be just the same. It’s a small, intimate and friendly festival where people can enjoy great Indie music from all over Scotland.
“So whether you are still pining for Wickerman, or just want to have a great time at a really friendly small festival, come along and join us.”
On Friday evening there will be a variety of bands playing in the Coach House venue – entry is free. There will also be an open mic session that’s expected to attract musicians from far and wide.
On Saturday, from 3pm onwards, there will be bands including:
- The Hoolits ( Mian Image)
- The Trongate Rum Riots
- Junkman’s Choir
- The Strange Blue Dreams
- John Coletta & the Humpff Family Revival
- Expect Chaos
- Noky’s Disco (with guest DJ Mr Brown)
And on Sunday lunchtime the festival vibe will continue with jamming sessions for anyone and everyone who’s keen to take to the stage.
The Craigdarroch Arms has a growing reputation as a music and entertainment venue with events taking place across the summer featuring every imaginable genre. It has a series of events spaces including a function room, outdoor area and The Old Coach House.
