Acclaimed John Hinshelwood Band Brings Scots Americana to Moniaive

Scottish Americana comes to Moniaive this week when the acclaimed John Hinshelwood Band plays at the Craigdarroch Arms.

Hinshelwood’s latest country album Holler Til Dawn has been highly praised on both sides of the Atlantic and has even won him fans among radio DJs in Australia.

His other CDs Shattered Pleasures and Lowering the Tone have also received widespread critical acclaim, with the prestigious publication Maverick describing the latter as “a superb album full of beautifully crafted songs”.

A track from the CD What’s Left is What’s Right reached number four in the British/Irish Independent Country music chart.

Tim O’Sullivan, who runs the Craigdarroch Arms, said: “John and his band are widely recognised for the quality of their songs and music – and have been praised as proof that British country music can be brilliant.

“He has many fans in the USA where his songwriting, and his skills as an observer of life, are keenly appreciated. We’re very pleased to be welcoming John and his band to Moniave and are all looking forward to a great night of entertainment.”

Over the past three decades the Lanarkshire based singer/songwriter has built a well-deserved reputation as a writer and performer of distinction.

He has recorded with, among others, ex-Byrd Gene Parsons, legendary Scottish songwriter Rab Noakes, American singer/songwriter Kathy Stewart and ex Poozie Patsy Seddon.

He has also shared a stage with many distinguished artists including Roger McGuinn, Tim O’Brien, Dave Pegg, and Martin Simpson.

His live appearances have included Celtic Connections, Highland Festival, Wembley Country Festival, Perth’s Southern Fried Festival, and Summertyne Festival in Newcastle, in addition to headlining at most of the main acoustic music clubs in Scotland and many other venues across the folk/country/Americana music scene.

The line-up for the Craigdarroch gig, which takes place on Saturday 11 November, at 8pm, is:

  • John Hinshelwood – acoustic guitar, vocals
  • Tim Black – acoustic and electric guitars, mandolin, vocals
