YOUR ESSENTIAL GUIDE TO ELECTRIC FIELDS 2017

With less than a month to go until the gates open for Dumfries and Galloways Electric Fields, the last big party of the summer, final touches are being made for a weekend of top class music, amazing food and great entertainment coupled with an intimate, community atmosphere. Here’s the essential guide to your weekend…

The Venue

Returning to the stunning grounds of the 17th Century Drumlanrig Castle, nicknamed ‘The Pink Palace’, in Dumfries & Galloway for its fourth outing, Electric Fields offers a truly unique setting, with breathtaking views in every direction.

Nestled deep within the rolling hills and green forests of D&G, the venue is a haven for all those looking to escape the city for one weekend as they pitch up their tents in the castle’s back garden.

Take a break from the fun of the festival with a stroll through the magical woods or down by the river before heading back for some more ace music.

The Campsite

The site is approximately 60 minutes drive south of Glasgow / Edinburgh, 90 minutes north of Carlisle and easily accessible from Dumfries & Sanquhar railway stations.

The campsites at the festival have a lovely atmosphere, with ‘love they neighbour’ being the motto for all those who set up camp. As well as the main campsite, there is a separate family camping field, which is cannily placed in front of Drumlanrig’s massive adventure playground!

If you want that extra level of luxury, then their boutique camping field is for you. Provided by their friends at Cloudhouses, you can sleep in the ultimate comfort at Electric Fields and stay in a yurt, bell tent or a squrt complete with beds, rugs and lights. As well as this, new for 2017, EF welcome Tangerine Fields and their pre-pitched village. A great way if you want to turn up, have fun, and leave without ever touching a peg.

Line-up

Always striving to showcase the most exciting music around at the moment, EF offers festivalgoers the opportunity to see up to 100 artists across four stages, as well as secret sets throughout the weekend from a few special friends.

Friday sees Frightened Rabbit headline their first Scottish festival, which is sure to be a triumphant close to the first day. While on Saturday the ‘Boy In Da Corner grime superstar Dizzee Rascal brings his MC skills to the headline slot, fresh from releasing his latest critically acclaimed album ‘Raskit’.

New for this year, EF also has stages put together by two of Scotland’s foremost authorities on new and exciting music, with the Tenement TV Discover Stage, and a new stage curated by BBC Radio Scotland’s Vic Galloway, both championing passionate and exciting music from around the UK and beyond.

For those electronically inclined, the Sneaky Pete’s stage line-up is led by Glasgow stalwart Jackmaster, known for his ability to traverse genres and moods in a few hours.

As well as an amazing musical line-up, Electric Fields have invited Scotland’s finest wordsmiths Neu! Reekie! to curate a fantastic line-up of spoken word, comedy & animation.

Food & Drink

As well as an amazing musical lineup, Electric Fields will this year be expanding its food and drink offering.

They have teamed up with the folks behind Scotland’s best street food market The Pitt to bring you an awesome culinary experience at the festival. They’ll be bringing some of the best vendors in the country to set up shop in a specially curated food village to take care of rumbling stomachs and keep you energised for the weekend!

There’s a variety of new bars on offer this year as well, with a dedicated Ale Festival (including their own brewed ‘Electric Ale’), two new cocktail bars – a pop-up from world renowned Edinburgh favourite Hoot The Redeemer AND a dedicated Patron Airstream Bar! For the wine and Prosecco fans, there’s also a new wine bar, brought to the festival by Smith & Gertrude with a wide selection from around Europe to quench your thirst.

Our Kids Electric

Electric Fields welcomes adults and kids alike. They are committed to making sure that everybody has the greatest time at EF and leave with the best memories of the summer, so they are making it as safe and simple as possible for you and your little ones. For the young ones the “Our Kids Electric” area returns jam-packed with an abundance of family-friendly activities, music (did someone say kids disco?) and a great atmosphere to boot!
