Zac Scott Has a New ‘Strategy’ as He Releases EP

‘Strategy’ is the debut EP release from Dumfries and Galloway singer-songwriter, Zac Scott.

Zac Told DGWGO Music News ” The EP is  collection of five new songs about my recent travels to America, yearning for less and also about making rash decisions, Strategy will introduce you to  bold, eclectic and at times intimate sound. The self-funded EP was recorded throughout my home region of Dumfries and Galloway, where I found space to write and record in a variety of locations before the songs were developed and mastered in New York City this summer.”

Influenced by The Frames, Newton Faulkner and David Gray Zac is a songwriter who is keen to encapsulate a curious, reflective yet quirky lyrical tone – and also one who seeks to collaborate with lots of instrumentalists, particularly from Dumfries. Zac worked with Double Bass player Stuart MacPherson, Drummer Cameron Black and Sound Engineer John Dinning of Sound Travels in the recording process and has recently added pianist Grace Dale to the fold to prepare for his live shows at the start of 2017.

The lead single from the EP, ‘We’re Still Guessing’ – a particularly timely song for the types of politics that are surfacing throughout the world – was made into a music video. Filmed at ‘The Old School’  in Dumfries by local filmmaker Tom Armstrong, you can view his video here and get a feel for Zac and the band:

A graduate of the Contemporary Performance Practice course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Zac was a fellow at the Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall New York on their Musical Connections programme in the spring of 2015. He has also trained at Lincoln Center Education in New York in July 2016.

Zac regularly works as a music teaching artist for Glasgow based inclusive music and dance charity Paragon Music, leading workshops for children and adults who have additional support needs or physical disabilities as well as mentoring people on a 1-1 who want to write, record and perform their own music. He also composes for film, dance and live performance art – recent works include a new soundtrack for a piece of theatre for early years by Caroline Bowditch.

“Zac Scott provides the gorgeous soundtrack, which ‘trickles’ through the auditorium.” (The Tempohouse)

Zac’s EP is available from iTunes, Amazon Music, Google Play and can be streamed from Spotify. There are also lots of other merchandise available from his online store, which you can visit at www.zjscott.com/buy.
