Stuart Roan had the idea many years ago but never had the time to work on his idea full time. Seeing yet another crash in the milk price Stuart decided that it was the right time to focus on his dream of processing their own milk and selling it direct to the customer. With the help of his wife Aylett, his brother Steven and his wife Tracey, together they pulled out all the stops and launched Roan`s Dairy Free Range milk which is “Fresher than the Udders”.

They launched their milk at their local farmers market at Colvend on Saturday along with Gertrude the cow and Border ITV News. Since then Roan`s Dairy milk has been flying off the shelves in their local Costcutters in Dalbeattie and Colvend. Already a number of local businesses are keen to support Roan`s Dairy and stock milk their milk that not only supports the local dairy industry but does taste fresher than the udders!

The family are keen to promote the fact that their milk is free range, Stuart adds that “you can buy free range eggs but no one locally was selling free range milk”. He adds, “our system is set up that our cows are free to spend the day in the lush grass fields, not many herds do this now and this is something that the consumers of dairy products like to see”.

to buy their locally produced free range milk. They have also been really delighted with the social media feedback from their customers saying that their milk tastes great and that it is fresher than the udders.
Together they hope to drive the business forward, particularly when the dairy industry is going through such turbulent times. Aylett adds – “we are really keen to grow our product range but want to focus on ensuring we get our milk on the shelves in local shops first”. When asked about their logo – Tracey adds – “its surprising what ideas come to you at the 4am milkings”.
