Kirkpatrick Macmillan Rally 2024 to be Hosted in Mid Nithsdale

KPT Development Trust are delighted to stage this year’s Kirkpatrick Macmillan(KM) Rally. The event is a recreational cycling weekend with a wide range of led bike rides over three days. The event is relocating, fittingly. to the Kirkpatrick MacMillan area, where his smiddy and grave are, in adjacent Keirmill. Penpont in mid Nithsdale, will be central to all activities, catering and camping. The area is surrounded by fantastic valleys and hills, and there’s a wide range of scenic led bike rides, with routes for all abilities.

The dates are set for 24-27 May 2024, with an action packed programme, both on and out of the saddle. The base for the event is Penpont village in the beautiful Mid Nithsdale hills. There’s three days of great and varied cycling routes  planned along with a social programme for the weekend. Each day there’s a choice of routes from long to mid range and a shorter family friendly route. The ‘family friendly’ shorter routes are designed for those riding with children (although no kids required to join these rides!) to kid-friendly destinations. These should be suitable for children cycling independently if they can manage a couple of hours riding and are able to tackle some hills, and will be at a slower pace.

Event Manager Senga Greenwood explained “ The KM Rally has traditionally been for the more experienced cyclist enjoying longer routes. We want to make the event more inclusive and family friendly, providing shorter routes and places of interest. This is a great opportunity for KPT to showcase our beautiful area and enjoy some of the local attraction’s and activities.”

All rides will be led by qualified cycling leaders who know the area well. To register for the three days, the KM Rally is on Eventbrite, with registration categories for adults, families [2 adults and 2 children] and children[ 5-16 years] Copy the link to access registration site:

There’s a camping field right in the heart of Penpont village, with showers and toilets on site. To book a camp site or get a list of all the local accommodation providers please get in touch with Senga on ; [email protected].

A full onsite catering facility will be delivered by the Three Villages Community Cafe, Penpont. The meals will be served in the Penpont Gladstone Hall. Again the catered meals will be prebooked through the Event Manager.

The KM Rally weekend aims to deliver an event that celebrates cycling in a beautiful area, as well as having a host of fun, social activities to appeal to all.
