Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the Network Management Contract for the South-West Trunk Road Unit, are undertaking essential maintenance on the A76 east of New Cumnock, between Overcairn Farm and west of Polshill Bridge between Monday 21st November and Friday 25th November 2022, between the hours of 7pm and 6am, each night.

This work was partially carried out in August 2022 and will now be completed under overnight convoy working by 6am on Saturday 26th November 2022.

This scheme, with a value of £537,243, will benefit around 2161 vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

We thank road users for their patience and cooperation whilst these essential works take place.

Due to other overnight works taking place on the A76 at Enterkinfoot between Mennock and Carronbridge, the following diversion will be in place:

  • Northbound traffic will leave the A76 and turn right on to the C133N Holestane Road near Drumlanrig Castle and then turn left on to the A702 north of Carronbridge. Traffic will then continue north to the Abington services roundabouts where it will join the B7078 and continue to Millbank before turning left on to the A70 Ayr Road east to Cumnock to re-join the A76 at Dettingen Roundabout.
  • Southbound traffic will take the exit at Dettingen Roundabout on to the A70 through Cumnock to the B7078 and then proceed to Abington Services before taking the A702 south to Carronbridge. Traffic wishing to head north on the A76 will be directed south to Thornhill Roundabout where they will be able to turn and travel north.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

Our operatives will follow strict physical distancing and hygiene protocols throughout the programme, in line with the Scottish Government’s COVID-19 guidance.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
