Realigned A76 Enterkinfoot Fully Opened

Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland has fully opened newly realigned section of the A76 at Enterkinfoot, between Sanquhar and Thornhill to traffic.

Following a landslip in November 2014, an extensive geotechnical study was carried out. In order to protect the safety of drivers, the trunk road has been operating under a single lane with traffic lights in place.

Scotland TranServ’s 30 week road realignment project began at Enterkinfoot on the A76 in early June, with completion on budget and now 3 weeks ahead of schedule.

Charles Macklin, Scotland TranServ’s Principal Engineer said:

We would like to thank the local community, commuters and businesses for their patience while this essential programme was carried out, it has been very much appreciated.
“Scotland TranServ and Transport Scotland worked closely with the local community and key stakeholders throughout the delivery of this complex project. In particular we have worked in close liaison with Buccleuch Estates, to whom we extend our gratitude for their support throughout the planning and continued delivery of these works.”

Additional benefits will include approximately 1km of newly surfaced trunk road, smoothing of existing sharp bends and the introduction of additional road safety benefits at this location.

Scotland TranServ will now remove the site cabins, which are currently located off the main thoroughfare. Some final finishing, snagging and landscaping works will be delivered at a more seasonal time.
