Kirkcudbright Otters Plan Sponsored Swim for Ukraine

Members of the Kirkcudbright Amateur Swimming Club, known as the Otters, have organised a sponsored swim to help the people of Ukraine.

The Otters estimate that the distance between Kirkcudbright and Kyiv is 2356km and are aiming to swim 1 metre for each kilometre. The senior team members are aiming to swim the 2356m (118 lengths) individually and the juniors will cover the distance as a team.

DGWGO went along to the pool to find out more.

Team captain Megan said “So as a club we’re doing a sponsored swim to raise money for the crisis in Ukraine from Kirkcudbright to Kyiv in metres.’

Ben, also a team captain added “I feel like we all decided as a group to do this because we thought it would be great to help out the citizens of Ukraine raising money where possible. The money will be going to a charity called Mool which will then provide things such as emergency aid for the citizens of Ukraine.

All the swimmers will be sponsored to help raise funds for Ukraine and the club have said that anyone can add to the appeal by sending a cheque, made payable to KASC to Kirkcudbright Swimming Pool, Castledykes Rd, Kirkcudbright DG6 4AW
