Dog Seriously Attacked By Two Greyhounds In Dumfries

Police Scotland want to trace the following described man who was walking two greyhound dogs in the Glasgow Road/Lochfield Road area in Dumfries at around 1115 hours on Saturday 11 June 2016.

At that time a woman was also in that area, walking her Chihuahua dog when it was attacked and seriously injured by the two greyhounds. During the attack, the owner of the Chihuahua dog was bitten on the hand while trying to break the fight up. As a result the woman was treated for bite injuries at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, and her dog was treated at the vet for what are described as severe injuries including multiple bite and claw injuries across its back and stomach. The dog is now recovering at home.

The man who was walking the two greyhounds at the time has yet to be traced is only described as being skinny with cropped hair.

Constable Ruairidh Matthews at Dumfries said “this was a particularly vicious attack by two large dogs on a small toy type dog which has left it with some severe injuries. We ask anyone who may have been in the area and saw anything, or who can help identify the owner of the two greyhound type dogs to call us on 101 at Dumfries.”
