Seven Years after the Odeon cinema in Dumfries, the main cinema in the town closed its doors for good, there is possibly a glimmer of hope that the popcorn machine may need to be put back in action.
On the 1st of March 2025 there was a recuritmet post on facebook on page titled ‘Regal Cinema Dumfries’ looking for a Cinema manager, with details of how to apply.
Although we have no conformation if this is genuine, the page is gathering followers fast, and the possibility of the town having it’s own Large cinema once again is creating excitment.
In a reply to one comment on the Facebook page asking when the Cinema will re-open , Regal Cinema Dumfries stated “At the moment our best estimate is towards the end of May or possibly June. Exact dates depend on the progress of works which are required to reopen the building.
They continued “These works are being undertaken by the building owner, so I don’t have full visibility of the schedule, however I believe that some interior works have been completed, though I am aware that the bulk of the work has yet to begin.”
The Regal Cinema was built for ABC cinemas and Opened on 14th December 1931. The auditorium was reduced in size and modernised in 1972 when the building was divided in two, with Bingo in the stalls and the Cinema remaining upstairs in what was the Circle.
