Absolute Classics continues its monthly classical music series for November with two unique and unforgettable concerts by oboist André Machado (pictured) and pianist Simon Callaghan.
This is a chance for audiences to hear two of the world’s top-class contemporary classical musicians play in venues in Dumfries and Galloway.
Friday, November 21 sees a first for the Annan-based producers of the International Musicians Platform as the series moves to Kirkcudbright’s Parish Church for the first time.
At 7.30pm, André and Simon, who have both delighted audiences at the Royal Festival Hall, will perform works by Gál, Britten, Saint-Saens, Arnold, and Kalliwoda inside the light and spacious church building dating from 1838 and designed by the Scottish Architect William Burn.
On Saturday, November 22, at 6.30pm, the pair will move to a more intimate setting: a classical dinner evening at the Cavens Country House Hotel in Kirkbean.
Here, the staff of Cavens, headed-up by owner Angus Fordyce, will accompany the concert with a reception with fizz and a three-course dinner with wine. The concert will include works by Kalliwoda, Saint-Saens, Britten, Malcolm Arnold, Hans Gal, York Bowen, Poulenc and Bach. Absolute Classics director, Alex McQuiston, said: “This is the first time we have had an oboist at the concerts and for me this is a real treat. I love the sound of the oboe, it just sings.”
On Sunday, November 23, popular and world-renowned chamber musicians, The Primrose Piano Quartet, return to the region for an afternoon concert in the Buccleuch and Queensberry Arms Hotel, Thornhill.
Alex added: “The Primrose Piano quartet are good friends of the classical music audiences in Dumfries and Galloway. They always manage to let their bright and colourful personalities shine through the music.”
The concert begins at 3.30pm.
