European Orchestra Visits Annan This Week

Music lovers will be delighted to hear that the Strasbourg Youth Symphony Orchestra is coming to Annan in July as part of their Scottish/Irish tour. Their visit to Annan is part of Annan History Town’s Summer Festival.

The Strasbourg Youth Symphony Orchestra performs about ten times a season during concerts in Alsace, before going on tour each summer in France or abroad (Quebec, Slovenia, Croatia, Poland, United States, China…). The year 2023 is the orchestra’s thirty fifth anniversary and they are celebrating it with a concert at the Palais de Fêtes in Strasbourg and a two-week tour in Scotland and Ireland, a first for the OJS!

Managed by its musicians in the form of a non-profit association, the OJS is composed of about fifty-five members aged from 15 to 30 years old, coming from all musical backgrounds (conservatories, music schools, private lessons…). Each year, the orchestra presents a varied musical program, combining pieces from the classics as well as works from film music and musicals (Aladdin, West Side Story, The Phantom of the Opera).

They will be appearing at Annan Academy on Friday 21st. July. 7pm for 7.30pm. Tickets (adults £7, schoolchildren £2) are available online at www.annanthehistorytown.org or Little Angels Gift Shop, High Street, Annan. Tickets will also be available at the door.
