Gypsy Jazz Finest Comes To The Cat Strand with a Classical Twist

Two wonderful guitarists Lulo Reinhardt & Yuliya Lonskaya are performing  at the CatStrand, New Galloway on Sunday 14 May 7:30pm.

Lulo Reinhardt is one of the foremost authentic and distinctive musical voices in modern Gypsy music. He is from a long line of musicians – the great-nephew of jazz legend Django Reinhardt.

By age five years, he was already being handed down the family’s guitar tradition and has devoted his life to music ever since. By the time he was 12 years old, Lulo was performing with cousins in the Koblenz-based Mike Reinhardt sextet. Over the years his musical horizons have expanded today perform a fusion of styles, including flamenco, Latin, and Brazilian jazz which he combines with his own artistic stamp, and always with a nod to his Gypsy influences. Lulo Reinhardt has toured the UK several times in the past decade. While Lulo has the repertoire of gypsy swing you might expect, he has extended and developed his musical horizons beyond that, with music from North Africa and India influencing his playing. Now with Yuliya, he moves towards classical music.

Yuliya Lonskaya began learning to play guitar at a young age, going on to gain a diploma at the Belarus Academy of Music and study with Professor Andreas von Wangenheim, Costas Cotsiolis, David Russell, Carlo Marchione and Abel Carlevaro. Since then, Yuliya has won several international guitar competitions in Poland, England, America, Serbia and Montenegro. With her eclectic repertoire of folk, jazz, bossa nova, Baroque, Classical and Romantic music, Yuliya is a very welcome performer in many European and American concert halls, playing solo concerts and appearing with orchestras.

Two wonderful world-class guitarists, this music is a cut above. It’s a wonderful opportunity to see it  performed in the intimate setting a of the CatStrand; a night not to be missed.
