1 a 1 a ghost 2Smart Indie I EM Records announce the signing of luciensghost and their debut release, the Strange Places EP, on 31st August 2015.
Luciensghost will launch the Strange Places ep with a show THIS FRIDAY at the Craigdarroch Hotel, Moniaive (28th August 2015). They will be joined by Flash Talk and Fat Goth, ahead of their appearance at nearby Electric Fields Festival the following night. The show is free from 8pm and press, radio and blog representatives are welcome.
“Strange Places’ is the splendid début EP from Glasgow art rockers luciensghost. It gets off to a quite astounding start in the shape of ‘lucien’s moral compass’ which falls somewhere between Talking Heads and Sparks”. – routefortheunderdog
Lead ep track “lucien’s immoral compass”, along with its amazing video made by Neil McLarty, has received high-profile twitter endorsement from Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand and the song play-listed by Jim Gellalty on national station, Amazing Radio.
Operating between Glasgow and Moniaive (recent winners of a Creative Scotland “Creative Place Award” for 2015), luciensghost wrap a variety of musical styles around songs with dark stories that consider the human condition, often the supernatural, dystopian futures and those things that linger in the recesses of the mind.
Described as “overwrought chamber-pop types” and “chansons noir”, luciensghost draw upon a diverse range of musical pointers inclusive of art-rock, post-punk, dark indie, electro and French song.
The Strange Places ep was recorded in Glasgow during 2014 and includes four songs that address a telephone haunting (lucien’s immoral compass), an inappropriately selfish perception of the death of a friend (newstyle), an obsession with a fading starlet (Split Personfantasy) and an unhealthy attraction to the undead (The Graveyard).
The Ep was produced by Mick Caldwell of synthpop revivalists, Flash Talk, and mastered John Clark of Bis / Debukas.
Luciensghost is the brainchild of musician and writer Mike Staples. His dark song-writing is mirrored in his dark fiction. This is particularly apparent in Little Penny Dreadfuls, a collection of 99 twisted tales of 99 words, co-authored with Andrew Garvey and his contribution to collections by publisher, Red Rattle Books. Playing keys and performing vocals, he is joined in luciensghost by Olwen (vox), Sean (guitar/synth), Woody (bass) and Gary (drums).

Luciensghost will launch the Strange Places ep with a show at the Coach-house, Craigdarroch Hotel,
