There Local young pipers, Benn Quinn, Scott Little and Eva Graham piped at Tesco Annan on Sunday 31st December to raise funds for South West of Scotland Piping & Drumming Academy. (SWSPDA).

Their talents were greatly appreciated and brought in donations totalling £375.80, which will go towards providing piping and drumming in schools, raising the standard of, increasing participation in, and improving enthusiasm for piping and drumming in the area.

A spokesman said : “SWSPDA would like to thank Tesco for giving them the opportunity to perform, raise vital funds, and wish them and their generous customers a happy New Year.

SWSPDA has progressed with its tuition programme to the extent where a Dumfries & Galloway Schools Pipe Band has been formed. This Pipe Band is primarily to represent Dumfries & Galloway Schools in the forthcoming Scottish Schools Pipe Band Competition on Sunday 10th March, in Kilmarnock. However, in the meantime, the Band has been asked to represent young pipers and drummers from local schools by welcoming competitors from the UK and abroad, to the Trophy D’ecosse international ice skating event at the Dumfries Ice Bowl on Friday 26th January. This will be a milestone for school children pipers and drummers, and one that they are looking forward to.
