It’s Electrifying! The Toolbox Talks Tour 2017 Comes to Dumfries in May

The curtain is about to go up again on the Toolbox Talks Tour, the nationwide event which takes the latest developments in Scotland’s electrotechnical industry to the widest possible number of trade professionals.

Registration for the hotly-anticipated evenings will open next week and the demand for places is likely to be even greater than 2016 when nearly 500 delegates attended the roadshows across the length and breadth of Scotland.

Once again, it is expected that the free events run by SELECT, the campaigning trade body for the electrical sector, will attract audiences of directors and managers, or company owners, many of whom will also bring employees and apprentices.

Alan Wilson, SELECT’s Head of Membership and Communications, said: “SELECT is once again gearing up to take to the high roads and low roads of Scotland to deliver advice and guidance on a range of subjects.

“We were delighted to receive such a positive response last year and our technical team, along with industry partners including the SJIB, SECTT and many more, have been hard at work putting together presentations that focus on relevant technical topics.

“The technical talks will, among other things, cover likely changes which will arise from the 18th edition of the Wiring Regulations, due to be introduced in 2018.”

Toolbox Talks will kick off this year at the Walled Garden in Edinburgh on 9 May. Other venues are:

Borders, Tweed Horizons, 10 May; Dundee, Invercarse Hotel, 16 May; Glasgow, Hampden Park, 17 May; Dumfries, Cairndale Hotel, 23 May; Kilmarnock, The Park Hotel, 24 May; Inverness, Tulloch Stadium, 1 June; Aberdeen,  Pittodrie Stadium, 2 June; Oban, The Wide Mouth Frog, 14 June; Isle of Lewis, Stornoway, Caladh Inn, 15 June; Orkney, Pickaquoy Centre, 21 June; and Shetland, The Shetland Hotel, 22 June.

Dave Forrester, SELECT’s Head of Technical Services, said: “As in every modern professional or technical sector, continuing professional development is of the utmost importance. The electrical industry prides itself on keeping up-to-date with events and, indeed, anticipating them.
“The Toolbox Talks events are structured to provide detailed technical information and guidance in bite sized portions which we hope our members will find useful.”

SELECT members have a collective turnover of more than £1 billion and provide employment for more than 15,000 people. Its member companies account for over 90% of all electrical installation work carried out in Scotland.
