Laggan Announces Partnership With Gatehouse Of Fleet Primary School

Laggan and Gatehouse of Fleet Primary School Partner to Launch First Start Hospitality Project

The renowned hospitality and tourism destination Laggan, is excited to announce an exciting new partnership with Gatehouse of Fleet Primary School, aimed at introducing primary school children to the world of hospitality through the “First Start Hospitality” project. Working closely with Primary 6 and 7 pupils,, the project will enlist the support of senior management from Laggan to mentor and guide the pupils throughout the program.

The highlight of the project will be the creation of a charity event at Laggan, entirely organised and delivered by the young participants from start to finish.

Over the course of five weeks, starting from the initial meeting with the young participants in late January, the project will conduct multiple training sessions at Gatehouse Primary School. From marketing, menu planning through to budgeting, these sessions are designed to impart the essential skills necessary to plan, organise, and execute a successful charity event, taking place at Laggan on Wednesday 6th March.

The charity event will not only provide practical experience in event management but also serve as a platform for them to showcase the skills they have acquired. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Gatehouse Primary School Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), reinforcing the project’s commitment to giving back to the local community.

Owner and Managing Director of Laggan, Duncan McConchie said “Often overlooked as a career choice, the hospitality industry offers a plethora of opportunities for personal and professional growth. First Start Hospitality seeks to break stereotypes surrounding the industry and showcase the fun, challenges, and valuable skills that it can instil in young individuals’ ‘.
Fiona Christie, Head of Gatehouse Primary said “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Laggan on this exciting project. It will provide our young people with a real insight into the world of work; enable them to use their literacy and numeracy skills within a real life context as well as raising their awareness of career opportunities within Dumfries and Galloway.”
