Dumfries couple Gary & Kirsty Jardine from Dumfries are taking part in the New York marathon on the 6th of November 2022 raising funds for the charity ‘Young Lives vs Cancer’ in memory of their beloved daughter Brooke Jardine who passed away in 2019.
Kirsty told DGWGO “We are raising funds for Young Lives vs Cancer, which is an amazing charity who provided incredible and invaluable emotional and financial support during Brooke’s long battle ( 2011 – 2019 ) with a brain tumour. Every penny raised will go towards helping Young Lives vs Cancer to support other children / young adults and their families with the incredible support to help them in their individual battles.”
Gary said “We chose New York because of the high profile of the event which hopefully would help us raise more money for such a great cause. We have previously had places booked in the NYC Marathon in 2020 and that was carried over to 2021 and then 2022 due to the pandemic.
I Wouldn’t say we are keen runners, I do some running for fitness and Kirsty runs from time to time. I ran the London marathon for charity in 2003 but this is the first marathon for Kirsty, we are just doing small runs now but our full training programme will start in earnest later in the yer as event is not until November.”
