Dumfries and Galloway College is set to host a series of online hairdressing and style events with colleges across the country.
Curriculum Managers from 12 different Scottish colleges’ hair and beauty departments will take part in the demonstrations which will be streamed via Instagram live.
The project was created after Hairdressing and Beauty Curriculum Manager, Joyce Litster joined local hairdresser Nelson Brown for a collaborative series of Instagram live sessions at the beginning of lockdown. Joyce evolved the project from there to begin working in conjunction with other colleges across Scotland.
Local hairdressers and beauty experts will also be on hand to offer their insight and experience to students throughout the series of live sessions.
In the absence of being able to be on campus, the Instagram live sessions will help students keep learning and developing their skills while also benefiting from the skills of other colleges.
Dumfries and Galloway College has been at the forefront of keeping learning going throughout the COVID-19 pandemic by prioritising online and digital methods of keeping students connected to their college.
The Instagram live sessions are scheduled to begin on 11 November when Joyce will hold a talk with Julie Wales from Glasgow Clyde College.
Further events are planned for 18 November and 9 December with the remaining events currently being scheduled.
Principal Joanna Campbell said: “COVID has meant that we have had to think carefully and creatively about how we keep on learning and teaching while distancing safely.
“This has resulted in our college community developing some ingenious methods and innovative solutions to problems and these Instagram live sessions are the latest example.
“I’m sure all staff and students attending these sessions will enjoy them and benefit from them and I wish everyone involved every success going forward.”
