The trek up Criffel on Saturday was made more challenging by ascending via Kncckendoch. This was a very steep unrelenting climb but avoided the new path (often referred to as a motorway) to the summit of Criffel. (569 meters or 1,867 feet). After a promisingly warm start to the day, it turned cloudy, cold and extremely windy on the summit. The group were grateful for the new path on the descent. Views over New Abbey and the coastline past Dumfries and the Nith were excellent. A very welcome cup of tea and scone were provided very efficiently in the New Abbey cafe. Thanks go to Ken for leading this walk.
