This December, Drumlanrig Castle & Country Estate is set to sparkle with the sights, sounds, and spirit of Christmas. With a host of festive events and activities for all ages, the Estate invites visitors to step into a winter wonderland filled with tradition, creativity, and heart-warming experiences. From wreath-making and Christmas markets to meeting Santa himself, this year’s programme promises a December to Remember for families, friends, and festive enthusiasts alike.
Santa’s Grotto – Saturday 5 – Sunday 21 December
Santa’s elves have been hard at work transforming Drumlanrig’s historic Stableyard into a cosy Christmas Grotto, a place so magical it’s sure to leave children wide-eyed with wonder. Little ones can step into a world of festive magic and meet jolly old Saint Nick himself, share their wish list, capture a festive photo, and, of course, receive a magical gift to take home.
Breakfast with Santa – Saturday 5 – Sunday 21 December
As children tuck into their tasty breakfast pancakes, excitement fills the air… because a very special visitor will be making an appearance in the Castle Tearoom at Drumlanrig. Santa himself will be wandering through the Tearoom, stopping by tables to share festive cheer, say hello to little ones, and offering festive photo opportunities. It’s the perfect chance for families to enjoy a relaxed and magical morning together, blending good food with unforgettable memories.
Christmas Market – Saturday 6 & Sunday 7 December
Set against the magnificent backdrop of the Castle, enjoy a dedicated Christmas shopping experience bringing a fantastic variety of stalls and businesses to the Castle lawn. Set in a heated marquee on the oval lawn, the event brings together artisan stalls, local crafts, and bespoke gift finds, alongside tempting food, mulled wine, and warming seasonal treats. Pick up some extra stocking fillers, unique gifts or a tasty tipple for the big day and a stunning wreath, handcrafted by the Drumlanrig Castle Garden team, before enjoying full access to the Castle’s gardens and grounds. Children can delight in face-painting and horse-drawn carriage rides with the Blackstone Clydesdales, while a charity tombola run by Cash for Kids adds a community spirit to the celebrations.
Wreath Making Workshop – Saturday 29 November
Embrace the season’s creativity with an exclusive wreath-making workshop led by Drumlanrig’s Head Gardener, Robbie Black. Gather natural materials from the Castle Gardens, craft your own festive door decoration, and enjoy a hearty soup and roll lunch. A wonderful way to welcome Christmas in true Drumlanrig style. Or if you can’t make the 29th, our sister property Dabton House is hosting wreath making workshops on 11 & 12 December.
Festive Craft Workshops – Tuesday 2, 9 & 16 December
Let your little makers get creative at Drumlanrig’s hands-on seasonal workshops. Hosted in the charming Stableyard, children can craft festive decorations and keepsakes to take home, adding an extra sprinkle of magic to the Christmas season.
Castle Tours – Daytime & Evening
