Stormy Saturday Sees 98 Point Victory For The Blacks Over Carrick

Stewartry were hoping to complete the league double after winning 17-3 earlier in the season.

STEWARTRY 98pts CARRICK 0pts.

Carrick had won the previous seven games between 2012 and 2017 including a 85-5 win to Carrick back in 2014. Storm Malik would play a part in the game as it blew towards the clubhouse which Stewartry decided to defend in the first half. Stewartry took early possession and attacked into the Carrick half. Winning the first scrum against the head
gave Stewartry the first scoring chance in only five minutes Scott Milligan scoring in the corner after good play by Nicholson, Armstrong and McCartney. The kick missed. 5-0.
Three minutes later Stevie Hogg scored the second try which was converted by John Picken 12-0. Twenty two minutes Archie Nicholson scored a third try with Hogg and Maxwell making the space. 17-0. The bonus point try quickly followed when second row Hugh Carson crashed over the line. 22-0. Thirty minutes the Stewartry forwards won a ruck and David Armstrong was set through by Hogg for the fifth score John Picken
adding the points. 29-0. Full back John Picken gathered a high up and under before breaking up field with Milligan, McCarney and McMorran charging through the tackles for Maxwell to score 34-0 for Stewartry at halftime.

The second half started with Archie Nicholson breaking clear and out running the defenders for try number seven. John Picken added the points 41-0. Next on the scoreboard for the Blacks was another breakaway try this time from T J McCarney. John Picken added the points 48-0. A double scoring burst in five minutes by number eight Stevie Hogg were both converted by John Picken taking the Blacks to 62-0. On the hour Ty Wilson following another Nicholson break added the eleventh try not converted 67-0. Hugh Carson scored after Milligan had done the hard work 72-0. The next try was all Scott Milligan’s own work as he broke clear down the wing touching down in the corner. Andrew Picken added the points taking over the kicking duties from the injured John Picken. 79-0. Stevie Hogg and the crowd enjoyed his fourth try of the game with a massive dummy pass he found himself clear 25 metres out and strolled in for his tenth try of the season. Converted by Andrew Picken. 86-0. With six minutes left David Armstrong was put in for his second try by Milligan the conversion missed 91-0. Another TJ McCarney break gave Archie Nicholson his hat trick of tries. The conversion took the points to 98-0 although the scoreboard operator greedily had put up 100 points but he had missed the eleventh try which was not converted. Full time 98-0.

Revenge was complete for the seven defeats suffered back in the years 2012-2017.
This was a well organised set of forwards and some excellent free flowing back division play as the Stewartry head into their last eight league games including leaders Garnock home and away and away to Allan Glen’s.
