Early interpretation of exam results released today indicates that candidates in Dumfries and Galloway have performed well and that the region has again demonstrated sustained improvement.
Results for Dumfries and Galloway show that:
In S4, 82% of candidates entered for N5 Qualifications achieved Grade A-C attainment rate, while 96% of candidates entered for N4 Qualifications achieved an internally assessed pass.
In S5:
• 50.9% of pupils achieved at least one Higher, a 3.9% increase and the highest value over the past ten years.
• 30.1% of pupils achieved at least three Highers, a 3.1% increase and the highest value over the past ten years.
• 14.5% of pupils achieved at least five Highers, a 1.2% increase and the highest value over the past ten years.
In S6 results were also very impressive with the highest or second highest values for ten years recorded in each of the 4 key measures.
Dumfries and Galloway’s attainment rates were above the national average in 8 out of 11 measures: Access 2, National 2, Access 3, National 3, National 4, Intermediate 2, National 5, and Higher.
Councillor Jeff Leaver, chairman of the Education Committee, said, “I’m delighted by these results. The Accounts Commission report delivered before the summer already had Dumfries and Galloway in the top third of authorities for sustained improvement over time. This year’s results consolidate and enhance this position. This is the first year of the new national qualifications taken by S4 as part of the Curriculum for Excellence. They are very different from Standard Grade so comparisons would be inappropriate. We are pleased with achievements and can now build on this solid platform in future years. For S5 and S6, direct comparisons with previous years are very favourable. I would like to thank pupils and staff for their hard work to achieve these results.”
