Due to adverse weather conditions overnight the A77 remains closed in both directions between Cairnryan and Shallock Roundabout, Girvan due to flooding. A diversion is in operation via the A75 and onto the A713 for northbound traffic and the reverse for southbound traffic. The normal diversion would be via the A714 but this is also closed due to flooding.
There were three incidents of landslips on the A77 overnight:
1. A77 Cairnryan just north of the ferry terminal.
2. A77 at Marchburn, just north of the South Ayrshire / Dumfries & Galloway Boundary
3. A77 Carlock Hill, approximately 5 miles south of Ballantrae
Location 1 has been cleared with works now ongoing at locations 2 & 3, it is estimated that there is approximately 100-120 tonnes of material at each location requiring to be cleared. Engineers are currently on site assessing the locations and co-ordinating with all relevant parties prior to making any decision on re-opening the road.
In addition to this we also have sweepers running the length of the A77 from Girvan to Ballantrae to remove all debris and detritus from the carriageway.
Scotland TranServ will be monitoring the situation closely and will send updates throughout the day.
Russell Rennie, Contract Director for Scotland TranServ said:
“Due to an exceptionally high volume of rainfall overnight in the west of Scotland this has resulted in three Landslips on the A77 and a degree of localised flooding on the trunk road.”
“Scotland TranServ resources were out throughout the night dealing with localised flooding issues and our Engineers were out at first light in order to assess the stability of the landslips. We are working with our partner, DG First to remove the debris and will then be able to assess whether the road can be re-opened. We will ensure that any inconvenience to the public is kept to a minimum.”
