Police Scotland and Forestry Commission Scotland are teaming up to crack down on anti-social behaviour in Galloway Forest Park ahead of the summer season.
With the busiest time of the year underway, both organisations are taking a zero tolerance attitude to the small minority who spoil it for others.
A key concern is the increase in anti-social behaviour at picnic sites around Galloway Forest Park, on the Forest Drives and potentially at the key visitor centres. Excessive drinking of alcohol, littering and rowdy behaviour is to be cracked down on.
Archie McNeillie, Forestry Commission Scotland’s Recreation Forester in Galloway said:
“Galloway Forest Park is a major draw to visitors over the summer period and the vast majority are very responsible.
“Unfortunately, with an increase in numbers we also get a few more reports of anti-social behaviour. We don’t want the small minority ruining a day out for others so we are joining with the Police to tackle it head on.
“We would also ask members of the public to be our eyes and ears and report any negative behaviour to the Police or Forestry Commission Scotland.”
Sgt Alan McDowall from Police Scotland added:
“Keeping people safe is our key priority, therefore throughout the summer month’s officers from Police Scotland will routinely patrol the key areas of the Galloway Forest Park in order to robustly deal with instances of disorder and criminality.
“This joint approach will provide reassurance to members of the public that this is a safe and secure place to visit whilst acting as a deterrent to those intent on being involved in anti-social behaviour.”
