Broad Daylight Assault On Man In Dumfries Supermarket Car Park

POLICE Officers in Dumfries are appealing for the help of the public following an unprovoked attack on a 43 year old man in the Morrisons Store car park in Brooms Road, Dumfries at the weekend. Around 3.50pm on Saturday 11 August 2018 the man from Kirkcudbright was returning to his car in the car park, having just completed a shopping trip with his family, when he was attacked from behind and struck over the head with some kind of weapon. The man suffered cuts to his head and was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary where he was treated for his injuries.

Detective Constable Scott Ruddick at Dumfries said “this was a completely unprovoked attack, in broad daylight in a busy supermarket car park and as yet we are unsure what the motive for the attack was. The man we want to trace is described as being anywhere between 5’5″ and 6′ tall, of medium build and was wearing a dark blue coloured long sleeved hooded top and jeans. We are reviewing CCTV in the area and appealing for anyone who may have been in the car park either before or after the attack to get in touch with us if they saw anyone fitting this description. The victim has been released from hospital and is recovering at home.
“This is a very unusual type of attack for our region and we are asking for the public’s help to identify and trace the man responsible. Patrols will be in the area as part of the enquiry and anyone with any information should contact them direct if they see them, or call us at Dumfries on the 101 number quoting 2728 of 11/7. Anyone who wishes to pass on any information whilst remaining anonymous should call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
