Cases Remain High In Region – As ‘Get Fully Vaccinated’ Call Made To Young People

A CALL is being issued for young people aged 12 to 17 to attend one of the vaccination drop-in clinics in order to receive their second jag.

It comes as case numbers in Dumfries and Galloway remain very high – standing at 1459 in the week ending Sunday January 30, down just slightly from 1511 the week before.

Numbers of close contacts of positive cases have actually increased – going up from 1798 to stand at 1989.

Director of Public Health Valerie White said: “We’re still seeing very high numbers of COVID-19 cases in Dumfries and Galloway, which means it’s very important that everyone gets fully vaccinated.
“For adults over 18, ‘fully vaccinated’ means having had three separate jags, and for young people aged 12 to 17 fully vaccinated means having had two jags – with second jags for this group only available through our drop-in vaccination clinics.
“Being fully vaccinated provides the highest level of protection against the COVID vaccine and its risk to health. Beyond this, don’t let your vaccination status be a factor limiting your options this year, including any travel or holiday plans for you or your family.
“Details on vaccinations and all the upcoming drop-in clinics can be found at the website www.nhsdg.co.uk/vaccines
“Almost 88 per cent of all eligible over 18s in the region are now fully vaccinated, having had three jags, but we want everyone to give serious thought to getting this fullest level of protection.”
