Dumfries and Galloway Library Service is taking part in the national celebration of reading. Book Week Scotland (24 – 30 Nov) was created to highlight Scotland’s exceptional culture, creative and literary talent, and to remind everyone of the unique pleasure that can be gained from a good book.
The 2014 programme is a treasure trove of delights, with something for everyone to enjoy.
- Booklovers can declare their love for their local library by writing a heartfelt letter. Love letters can be read in your local branch library and online throughout the week.
- You can make a reading pledge at your local branch. Joe aged 11 has already pledged to finish the whole Harry Potter Series by the end of Book Week.
- Those who want to spend the week reading are well catered for with free copies of ‘Scotland’s Stories of Home’ free from every branch library.
- You can vote for your favourite Scottish Book character or take a quiz to find you literary soulmate atwww.bookweekscotland.com
- Children can take part in a character treasure hunt in every branch.
- Join in the first ‘Human Library’ at Ewart Library, Tues 25th Nov 7pm. ‘Borrow’ a selection of human books who will read to you for a short time. Featuring Renita Boyle, Hugh Bryden, Jayne Baldwin, Mostly Ghostly, Vivien Jones, Giancarlo Rinaldi, Graham Roberts, Alison Burgess and Andy Nicholson as Human Books. Book titles will include ‘Sleepy Hollow’, ‘Mary Timney Road to the Gallows’, ‘The Dark side of Dumfries’, Munro Bagging and much more.. Free event for Adults. - Join Stranraer Library as they celebrate ‘Women in Writing’ with Jayne Baldwin, Renita Boyle and Vivien Jones. Wed 26th Nov, Stranraer Library, 7.00 – 8.00pm

“Book Week Scotland is an opportunity for everyone in the community to share their love of reading and make sure there are books in your house. I have pledged to read in the evenings during Book Week Scotland.”
