Daily Testing For Covid 19 Is Being Extended In Upper Nithsdale

Daily testing for COVID-19 is being extended in Upper Nithsdale right through this week until Friday.

It follows an increase in cases in the area, resulting in the introduction of additional testing which has been running since the end of last week.

Anyone living in Sanquhar, Kelloholm or the immediate surrounding area who is experiencing symptoms of COVID should self-isolate along with their household and arrange to be tested.

We would also encourage anyone experiencing a mild illness such as diarrhoea, runny nose or sore throat to be tested. Testing is also there for those people without any symptoms.

Interim Director of Public Health Valerie White said: ‘“We have seen an excellent uptake in the opportunity to be tested for COVID-19 in Upper Nithsdale from the community.
“This has enabled the identification of a number of additional cases of COVID-19 infection, including some where people had no symptoms and others where people had very mild symptoms.

“We have been able to trace chains of infection, but would very much encourage all those people in Sanquhar, Kelloholm and the immediate surrounding area to make full use of the testing that is in place until the end of the week.
“We’d also encourage everyone to exercise caution and good judgement as lockdown eases, to continue to follow FACTS guidance and to immediately self-isolate and arrange to be tested if experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19.”

A mobile testing unit (MTU) will be stationed at Mill Hill Centre in Corserig Crescent, Kelloholm, DG4 6EL, daily through to and including Friday 30 April.

In all cases, booking in advance is preferred but not required.
