Pupils from the Douglas Ewart High School fundraised £700 for Yorkhill Hospital’s Schiehallion Unit during their lunch break after hearing of a local child who is currently receiving treatment for leukaemia in the ward. A range of activities including 5-a-side football and leg waxing took place over the 45 minute break. Staff and pupils are delighted at the amount that was raised that will be put to good use on the ward that specialises in the treatment of all types of blood disorders and cancers.
Meanwhile in the school, S5 and S6 pupils are preparing for the opening of their ‘Pop Up shop’ in December. ‘Something Old, Something New’ will stock a range of second hand baby, children’s and young people’s clothes, books and toys, and handmade Christmas crafts. All profits raised in the shop will be donated to the Riverside Day Centre to fund activities for older people in the local area.
The pupils are still appealing for donations for the shop so please get in touch if you have any pre-loved items that can be sold on by phoning 01671 404756 or handing items into the school.
The pupils have been working with the Council’s Community Learning and Development Service in school to plan and develop their projects which not only benefits the recipients of their fundraising but their own personal learning and wider achievements.
